The Greek Jurists’ Union e-themis is a modern Union of lawyers from Athens and other cities of Greece. Our purpose is to contribute in the scientific debate in our country, especially on legal issues pertaining to the world of technology, personal data and communications. In this context, we have taken some noteworthy initiatives, by organizing scientific events and conferences, which were widely accepted by the legal community of our country. Department head and board member of the Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property (1994–97). Postdoctoral lecture qualification in civil, intellectual property, competition and media law at the University of Zurich (2000). Full Professor of technology and information law ETH Zurich. Director and faculty member of the Max Planck Institute for Intellectual Property, Competition and Tax Law (from 2002; Managing Director 2005–06 and 2011–12; from 2011 on Max Planck Institute for Intellectual Property and Competition Law). Full Professor (ad personam) at the University of Zurich. Honorary Professor at the Ludwig Maximilians University, Munich.

Areas of Interest:
Contract law for intellectual property, competition law and protection of intellectual property, fundamental questions of property rights and new technologies, harmonisation of international property rights.

Academic Résumé:
Bernt Hugenholtz is Professor of Intellectual Property Law and Director of the Institute for Information Law of the University of Amsterdam (IViR). In 1989 he received his doctor’s degree cum laude from the University of Amsterdam, where he defended his thesis on copyright protection of works of facts. He has written numerous books, studies and articles on a variety of topics involving copyright, information technology, new media and the Internet. At the University of Amsterdam he teaches courses in copyright law, international copyright law and industrial property law. He was a member of the Amsterdam Bar and partner of the law firm Stibbe between 1990 and 1998. Since 2003 he has been a deputy judge at the Court of Appeal in Arnhem. Prof. Hugenholtz is a member of the Dutch Copyright Committee that advises the Minister of Justice of the Netherlands, and has acted as a consultant to the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO), the European Commission, and several national governments. He has been on international missions representing WIPO in China and Indonesia, and is a regular speaker at international conferences. Prof. Hugenholtz is General Editor of the Information Law Series,which is published by Kluwer Law International.
