Nick Kanas

Nick Kanas, M.D., is a Professor Emeritus at the University of California, San Francisco, and a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society.  He has conducted NASA-funded research, has been an amateur astronomer for over 65 years, and has collected antiquarian celestial maps, books, and prints for over 40 years.  He has presented a number of talks on celestial cartography to amateur and professional groups, including the American Astronomical Society, and he was invited to give the 1st Alan Cox Memorial Lecture for the Society for the History of Astronomy.  He has written two books on the subject:  Star Maps: History, Artistry, and Cartography, now in its 3rd edition, and Solar System Maps: From Antiquity to the Space Age.  He also has written three published books on astronaut psychology, two on group therapy, and three science fiction novels (see nickkanas.com).  E-mail: nick.kanas@ucsf.edu.
