Misinformation is having a profound impact on the tourism industry, where distorted images of destinations, misleading travel articles, and unreliable reviews can significantly skew travelers' perceptions and influence their decisions. In light of this challenge, we propose an innovative teaching scenario that utilizes the interactive game "The Island of Truth" to cultivate critical digital literacy skills in primary school students, specifically through the lens of tourism-related content.
In this engaging educational framework, students will embark on an adventure in "The Island of Truth," where they are tasked with exploring various scenarios that present them with a mix of accurate and distorted information about popular travel destinations. Throughout the game, students will develop the ability to identify fake images, such as digitally altered photographs that misrepresent the true allure of a location. They will also learn to critically evaluate the reliability of travel information by analyzing the sources of articles and reviews they encounter, distinguishing between credible content and misinformation.
Moreover, the scenario emphasizes the importance of recognizing misleading practices in the tourism industry, such as exaggerated marketing claims or fabricated testimonials that can deceive potential travelers. By engaging in these activities, students will not only sharpen their critical thinking skills but also foster a sense of responsibility as informed digital citizens and future travelers.
