Vasileios Laopodis
CULTUREPOLIS Founder and President

Dr. Vasileios Laopodis, is the founder and president of CulturePolis. He Physics (4-year degree) in Athens, MBA & DEA Informatique (Toulouse, France), and has a Doctorate Degree in Informatics (PhD). He worked in the private sector (IBM, FIAT, banking etc.) as ICT Engineer / DP Manager, taught at universities and Tech Institutions (AUEB, Un. Aegean, TEI Athens/Uni of West Attica) and published several books and papers and gave numerous lectures around the world.

He served as Senior Official for 18 years at the European Commission (1988-2006) on policy initiatives & projects related to RTD & Innovation, ICT, Standardization, Information Society, and its social and cultural impact. He has been a founding member / president and member of the board of many professional and societal organizations (Greek Computer Society, IFIP TC9/WG9.2, and CEPIS), as well as private firms in Informatics, and he is the author of more than 200 articles/scientific papers & 12 books. In 2006 he founded and since then presides CulturePolis.org a Corfu, Greece based CSO, with the objective to act as catalyst in cultural and societal and sustainability issues in Greece and neighboring regions in Europe and Mediterranean and North African Countries.
