
Andreas Grammenos is a PhD candidate at the Ionian University, Greece, specialising in cultural heritage interpretation, tourism, and digital transformation in guiding practices. His research examines the evolving role of tour guides in the digital era, the integration of artificial intelligence in interpretive processes, and the use of interpretation as a tool for destination marketing, visitor flow management and the regeneration of historic urban environments.
He holds a BA and an MA in History and has presented research on guided tours, heritage interpretation, and sustainable tourism at academic conferences and lectures in academic programmes. His current doctoral work explores the intersection of interpretation theory, visitor experience, and destination management, with a particular focus on historic city centres, and the introduction of the interpretation techniques as an integral part of the typical tourist guide training.
He is a tourist guide and a certified tourist guide trainer by the World Federation of Tourist Guide Associations (WFTGA) and has taught at the Corfu Tourist Guide School, as well as in training programmes for tour guides at the Ionian University.
In parallel, he serves as Tourism Policy Advisor to the Municipality of Central Corfu and the Diapontian Islands, contributing to the development of evidence-based tourism strategies and cultural heritage initiatives.
