7th Annual Seminar on Ancient Greek Music 2010
"The main passages concerned with music in Plato’s Laws"
5-11 July 2010, Corfu
The morning sessions are devoted to the study of one particular text or topic; discussions are led by Dr Eleonora Rocconi (Pavia), Professor Andrew Barker (Birmingham) and Professor Egert Pöhlmann (Erlangen). In the evenings from Monday to Saturday there is a programme of lectures (one or two each evening) on a range of topics to do with ancient Greek music, not necessarily ones connected with the themes of the morning seminars. Some of the lectures are given by established academics, others by research students. Visiting speakers in 2010 are expected to include Professor Lydia Goehr (Columbia), Dr Barbara Kowalzig (London), Dr Stelios Psaroudakis (Athens), Dr Christos Terzis (Athens) and Dr Stefan Hagel (Vienna).
On the final day of the event (Sunday), there is a round-table discussion in the morning, and in the evening a public concert of music connected in some way with ancient Greek themes.
