Recent studies highlight the growing integration of generative AI (GenAI) into Greek legal translation workflows (Panezi & O'Shea, 2025). However, there is limited empirical research on GenAI use by legal translation trainees and professionals working with less-resourced languages such as Greek. Farrell (2025) conducted a survey on the use of GenAI by professional translators. Among 425 participants in Farrell’s survey, only two reported Greek as their primary source language and twelve as their primary target language. To address this gap in the literature on GenAI use in Greek legal translation, an anonymous questionnaire with 21 closed-ended questions adapted from Farrell’s survey has been developed using Google Forms. This exploratory survey, currently underway, builds on existing survey research by focusing specifically on legal translation. Descriptive statistics and chi-square tests, where assumptions are met, will be used to compare responses from legal translation trainees and professionals in Greece. The questionnaire is being distributed to third- and fourth-year legal translation undergraduate students at the Department of Foreign Languages, Translation and Interpreting (DFLTI) in Corfu, Greece, as well as to DFLTI graduates, who work as professional legal translators and are members of the Panhellenic Association of Professional Translators Graduates of the Ionian University (PEEMPIP). The study has three objectives: (a) to provide one of the first surveys in Greece on the frequency of GenAI use among legal translation students and professionals; (b) to compare perceptions of GenAI and its integration into legal translation workflows among trainees and professionals; and (c) to investigate participants' general and legal translation training in GenAI use. By examining GenAI use among legal translation trainees and professionals in Greece, this study contributes to emerging debates on AI literacy, translation education and professional readiness for GenAI use in legal translation.
