Marianna Hatzopoulou (Ph.D.) is a Greek Sign Language interpreter and a qualified teacher of deaf students. She earned her PhD in Greek Sign Language Acquisition from Stockholm University, Department of Sign Language Linguistics, in 2008. She has more than 35 years of experience as a Greek Sign Language interpreter. Since 1987, she has worked for the Hellenic Federation of the Deaf in community interpreting and has provided interpreting services at numerous European and international conferences, seminars, and university programmes. She was a founding member of the Association of Greek Sign Language Interpreters (SDENG) and served on its Board of Directors from 1991 to 1998. She also served as a Board member of the European Forum of Sign Language Interpreters (efsli) from 2017 to 2019. She has been a trainer of Greek Sign Language interpreters since 2000 and has served as Head of the Scientific Committee for the Professional Certification Examinations for Greek Sign Language Interpreters since 2019. She became President of the Association of Greek Sign Language Interpreters (SDENG) in February 2026. She has authored one monograph, published articles in international journals and book chapters, and delivered numerous presentations at Greek and international conferences. Her research interests include sign language linguistics, teacher education, and sign language interpreter training.
