Polyxeni Nikolakopoulou is a professional English language teacher and certified Greek Sign Language interpreter, with long-standing experience in Special Education and, in particular, in the education of Deaf and Hard of Hearing students. Since 2013, she has served at the Public Special Junior High School–Lyceum for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in Argyroupoli, and since 2008 she has provided interpreting services in Greek and international settings, working between Greek Sign Language, Greek, and English. She has specialized in interpreting for educational, political, cultural, and scientific settings, including conferences, theatrical performances, seminars, and academic presentations, and in recent years has also been actively engaged in remote interpreting for international initiatives. As a conference interpreter, she has participated in numerous major international events, including the EU-China Civil Society Dialogue on Disability Rights (Beijing, 2013) and the European Disability Forum (Cyprus, Strasbourg, Athens), as well as European Erasmus+ programmes. She is a member of AIIC (the International Association of Conference Interpreters). She holds an MSc in Special Education from the Department of Primary Education, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (EKPA), and a degree in English Language and Literature, also from EKPA. She is certified in Greek Sign Language and interpreting, has trained in International Sign (IS), and has a working knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL). She has taken part in educational programmes in Greece and abroad through Erasmus+, EKPA, the National Theatre of Greece, efsli, and Lancaster University (Dublin, Iceland, Athens, UK), covering teaching methodology, intercultural education, theatre in education, and educational interpreting.
