Elizabeth Katsaraki

Elizabeth Katsaraki is a psychologist and certified group and family psychotherapist. She has worked at the School for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing since 2010. She graduated from the University of Picardy in France and holds a postgraduate diploma in Clinical Psychology (DESS) from the University of Nice, France. She has been a certified Greek Sign Language (GSL) interpreter since 2006 and holds several specialized certifications in deafness, including a diploma in specialized education for the Deaf from the University of Patras. Elizabeth is President of the Disciplinary Council of the Association of GSL Interpreters and a member of the Scientific Committee for the evaluation of GSL interpreters. She has worked at all levels of education in various schools for the Deaf in Athens, from kindergarten through to Lyceum, as well as in vocational education institutions for the Deaf, gaining in-depth expertise in the field. Her professional experience with the Deaf community began in 2004, when she co-founded the Greek Sign Language Institute "Gefyres Epikoinonias" (Bridges of Communication), where she continues to work today. At the Institute, she serves as Head of Communication and Organization and has led the GSL Interpreting Studies programme since 2006. As a specialist, she has gained experience participating in various settings, including national and international conferences. She recently undertook the GSL review of two projects: the design and development of accessible educational material for Deaf students (grades A–E) in collaboration with the Institute of Educational Policy under the Ministry of Education, and the translation of the CRPD (UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities) into Greek Sign Language. She has also participated in numerous national and European conferences and Erasmus+ programmes as a specialist (Sign 1st, Sign Links, Go4Vet) and as a partner institution.
