The International Conference “The Adriatic Olive Grove: Risk Prevention, Sustainability, Learning” will be held in June 18-20 2014 on the island of Corfu, Greece, and it is organized by the department of Archives, Library Science and Museology of the Ionian University. This Congress is part of the IPA Adriatic Project “The Adriatic Olive Grove: Risk Prevention, Sustainability, Learning”, funded by the European Union and the Greek Government. The goal of the conference is to highlight the importance of the olive tree, fruit and oil in the Adriatic world, as well as to disseminate the results of the Project research activities that were developed in Corfu (Greece), Rimini (Italy) and Vlora-Tirana (Albania). Subject areas and sub-topics include:

A. The Adriatic olive grove: cultivation and environmental issues

  • Recording and describing olive grove’s products, identify relevant problems and present modern methods to resolve these issues.
  • Products and by-products from the processing of olive-crop. The ability of exploiting the products and by-products of olive in local economy in the Adriatic world.
  • Recording of existing waste management situation in olive presses.
  • Manage potential threats to the environment from the olive grove itself and the process of its products.
  • Olive grove and agro-tourism.
  • Best methods for tackling olive-crop diseases: Enemies of the olive, such as the insects (olive moth), the places that they endemic, their biological characteristics and methods to overcome.
  • The flora and fauna of the Adriatic olive groves.


B. Economic and information aspects of the Adriatic olive grove
  • Economic and information aspects of olive grove. Risk reduction in business sector, handling waste disposal, quality control, market expansion.
  • The legal aspects related to the olive tree-olive oil-olive grove in the Adriatic area, including legal rules, trademarks, special rules and regulations, competition rules, intellectual property rules, other)
